Dignitary Security

Course Description - This 36-hour course provides instruction on developing and implementing a dignitary security protection plan or participating as a member of a protection detail. Curriculum addresses such issues as: identifying threats; organizing and operating a motorcade; providing in-transit and site security; and identifying individual team member responsibilities. Instruction includes both classroom lecture and field exercises. Students will plan, conduct and participate in a role play of a motorcade scenario at the conclusion of the course.

Who Should Attend - Officers who are assigned responsibilities to either develop dignitary security plans for their agencies or participate as members of a security detail.

Course Objectives - This course provides the students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to plan operations involving the protection of dignitaries, e.g., public officials or other “high profile” persons, and/or to participate as a member in a dignitary security detail.

Students will be required to perform at a moderate level of physical activity. Students are encouraged to bring the service weapon and holster that they will use during an actual dignitary security protection assignment. Failure to adhere to required safety procedures may be grounds for immediate dismissal from the course and notification of the student's agency.
