Tire Track & Tire Impression Evidence Examination (For Examiners)

Class Description: 
This 5-day (40-hour) course provides essential information for examiners of tire impression evidence who write reports and testify about their observations and conclusions. Basic tire construction and manufacturing, as it assists in the evaluation of class characteristics, is addressed. Class characteristics of noise treatments are explained. Tire wear and random individual characteristics, which enable positive identification of a tire, are covered. Students will conduct numerous exercises and case examinations. Exercise results will be discussed to teach and re-enforce both fundamental examination methodology and observations. These discussions will provide experience with a variety of kinds of examination results and the reporting of those results. Hands-on experience with creating exemplary impressions of tires for subsequent examination will be included. Also, valuable information about retread tires, tire databases and sources of information will be disclosed.

Objectives: 
To gain familiarity with principles, techniques and systematic practices used for the collection, recovery, preservation and examination of tires, tire track, and tire impression evidence.
Materials Fee: 
A $125.00 materials fee will be charged to all non-BFS students (due at beginning of class). Make check(s) payble to the California State Department of Justice.
Tuition: 
No cost to POST supported or State of California based Law Enforcement agencies. A $600.00 tuition fee will be required of all other public agency, private sector, or out-of-state applicants.
