Evelle J. Younger, 26th Attorney General

Born in Nebraska on June 19, 1918, Younger graduated from University of Nebraska Law School. Served as Special Agent for the FBI. Entered the Armed Forces as a private, working his way up in ranks to Brigadier General in the Air Force Reserve. Previous judge with Los Angeles Municipal and Superior Courts, and District Attorney with Los Angeles County.

Under the Younger administration, environmental protection and preservation assumed new importance when the state lawmakers passed CEQA; consequently, the Attorney General was now responsible to protect California from pollution, impairment or destruction. Married Mildred Eberhard Younger, and had one son. Died on May 4, 1989.
