Information for Draft Notice

Sample Draft Notice

Based on your answers, here is a sample draft notice that you may copy into an email or mail to the business that you believe has violated the CCPA. Make sure you replace the placeholders in red brackets with the information indicated. Once you leave this page, this information will not be saved.

You can usually find a business’s email address or mailing address in the business’s privacy policy. A link to a business’s privacy policy should be on the business’s website. Most businesses put the link near the bottom of the webpage or in the webpage menu. If you can’t find it, look for a “Contact Us” link on the business’s website or search the internet for the business’s address. Sometimes a business has several email addresses. Use the one for CCPA or privacy issues, if there is one. If there is no privacy-specific email address, use the address for consumer complaints or corporate office headquarters.

If, after 30 days from the date you email this notice, you return to the business’s website and do not see any changes to the alleged noncompliance, you can file a Consumer Complaint Against the Business by going to www.oag.ca.gov/report. Please make sure to save a copy of the emailed notice and any correspondence you receive acknowledging receipt of the email by the business. You can always submit a Consumer Complaint Against a Business/Company by using the link above for other alleged CCPA noncompliance, which will be reviewed to determine if further action is warranted.

This tool is not legal advice. The Office of the Attorney General provides this tool as a resource but takes no position on the truthfulness of the information submitted or on whether a business has violated the CCPA.
