Drug Identification & Influence - Training for Trainers

Course Description - This 60-hour course is designed for the narcotic investigator and specifically encompasses the teaching techniques used in giving instruction on the most commonly abused controlled substances, methods of acquisition and abuse, as well as articulating the signs and symptoms of persons under the influence of these substances. This course will familiarize the student with the most advanced techniques and teaching methods used in narcotic enforcement training. In addition, the student will be given audio visual resources and handouts covering drug influence.

Who Should Attend - Law enforcement personnel who have worked in or are currently assigned to narcotic investigation, have made arrests under 11550 H & S (under the influence), and who intend to instruct law enforcement personnel regarding drug influence and/or narcotic related topics.

Pre-requisite - Attendees must have attended a POST approved 80-hour Narcotic Investigation course, a 32-hour Under the Influence course, or the Drug Abuse Recognition course sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the California Office of Traffic Safety. All applicants must attach a resume encompassing the listed criteria with the ATC application form.

Course Objectives - To provide students with specific knowledge of sources, distribution, packaging and use of the most common drugs of abuse and equip students with the knowledge and materials to give instruction on the signs and symptoms of persons under the influence, as adopted by the California Department of Justice and the Drug Abuse Recognition Expert Program.
