Shooting Incident Reconstruction
This five-day (40-hour) course is designed to introduce the Forensic Scientist to general concepts in the investigation of shooting incidents with an emphasis on the reconstruction of events that occur at such scenes using a comprehensive approach that includes pre and post shooting incident considerations. To this end, the instructors have attempted to organize the course into a chronological progression of considerations that include: 1) a philosophy of critical thinking; 2) an introduction to various specific shooting incident / firearms related phenomena that offer reconstructive information integrated with other forms of physical evidence; 3) practical approaches to reconstructive techniques that can be applied during the direct investigation of shooting scenes and/or resolving reconstructive issues that inevitably arise after the fact; and 4) practical considerations gleaned from a review of sources from both investigative and/or physical evidence prepared by various professionals in law enforcement and forensic science.
