SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, leading a coalition of 14 attorneys general, today defeated the Trump Administration’s second attempt to strip access to cost-free birth control coverage protected under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, once again sided with California in State of California, et al. v. Alex Azar, II, et al., protecting the injunction currently in place. Today’s ruling means that 62 million women across the country will continue to benefit from reproductive health services.

“Once again, our courts have blocked the Trump Administration’s unlawful attempt to trample on women’s rights,” said Attorney General Becerra. “It’s a simple concept: a woman and her doctor are the only people qualified to decide what’s best for her health. Today will serve as a reminder to the Trump Administration that politicians and employers certainly have no business interfering with women’s reproductive healthcare. My office remains committed to protecting women’s rights in California and across the country.”
