SACRAMENTO — California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today issued the following statement in honor of California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Andy Ornelas on the day of his memorial service:
“Please pause with me as we honor the life and service of Officer Andy Ornelas. Officer Ornelas fought to stay alive for nine days after sustaining critical injuries in a crash while responding to a patrol call. He passed away on December 2, 2020. Officer Ornelas was a four-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol, and had been assigned to the Antelope Valley Area Office since 2019. He came from a family dedicated to protecting and serving their communities. His mother and uncle are retired from the CHP, his father is a motorcycle officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, and his brother is a CHP officer. We extend our deepest sympathies to Officer Ornelas’ entire family. Thank you for your valiant service in protection of the people of California, rest in eternal peace, Officer Ornelas. EOW: 12/2/20.”
