Attorney General Becerra Issues Statement on Richmond Police Department Fallen Officer Sgt Virgil Thomas

SACRAMENTO — California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today issued the following statement to remember fallen Sergeant Virgil Thomas of the Richmond Police Department and his family on the day of his memorial services. 

“Today, we pay tribute to the life of Virgil Thomas. Sergeant Thomas passed away on August 20, 2020, from complications due to COVID-19. He spent nearly 30 years of his life in service to his community as a 24-year veteran with the Richmond Police Department, and before that as an officer in the Albany Police Department and the Novato Police Department. Sgt Thomas was known for his work with youth, and he served as the president of the Richmond Police Officers Association. We extend our deepest sympathies to his beloved wife, Karene, his four children and all who loved him. Rest in peace, Sergeant Virgil Thomas. EOW: 8/20/20.”
