Attorney General Becerra on Juneteenth: We Will Always Fight for What is Right
SACRAMENTO – Attorney General Xavier Becerra issued the following statement today in honor of Juneteenth Independence Day, which marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Texas to announce that the remaining enslaved people were free.
"On Juneteenth, we recognize an important moment in our history marking a turn away from a legacy of slavery in the United States. As we commemorate this day, we must recommit to build on the progress we have achieved toward a just society for all people. As Attorney General, I pledge to protect our hard fought victories securing our fellow Americans' civil rights and liberties. We will always fight for what is right."
