SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra issued the following statement after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled yesterday that the Trump Administration cannot delay a rule that calls on automakers to produce vehicle fleets that meet or exceed federal fuel efficiency standards:

“Different case, different court, same holding: the Trump Administration is not above the law. This is our 10th environmental victory in court against this Administration. Carmakers that fail to meet important fuel efficiency standards will now face increased penalties. This is a victory for our families’ health and our planet. More fuel-efficient cars on our roads means cleaner air, better overall health for our children, and savings at the pump for consumers. We will continue to hold the Trump Administration accountable, especially for clear violations of the law that harm our families.”

On September 11, 2017, Attorney General Becerra, along with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, led a coalition of five Attorneys General in filing suit over this matter.
