Attorney General Bonta Issues Statement on Death of Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy

OAKLAND — California Attorney General Rob Bonta today issued the following statement on the death of Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Darnell Calhoun, who died in the line of duty on Friday, January 13, 2023:

“Deputy Darnell Calhoun represented the best of the California spirit — protecting and serving the public with valor,” said Attorney General Bonta. “On behalf of the nearly 6,000 men and women of the California Department of Justice, I extend our deepest condolences to Deputy Calhoun’s family, colleagues, and the entire Riverside community. His service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.” 

Deputy Calhoun began his service with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department in February, 2022. Deputy Calhoun previously served at the San Diego Police Department for two years.
