(SACRAMENTO) – Attorney General Bill Lockyer today issued the following statement in response to Governor Gray Davis' appointment of Special Assistant Attorney General David De Alba to the Sacramento Superior Court:

"The Sacramento Superior Court is fortunate to be receiving the services of David De Alba. Dave is an exceptionally caring and intelligent person, an outstanding attorney and he will be a great judge. Dave has been with the Attorney General's office since 1979, and has worked in both the criminal and civil legal divisions. Since 1999, he has been a Special Assistant Attorney General and has provided my administration invaluable assistance in formulating policies on California-Mexico law enforcement programs, firearms, medical marijuana (Prop. 215), alcohol and drug programs (Prop. 36), and school safety. Despite his demanding professional responsibilities, Dave has consistently found the time and energy to be a devoted father and husband, to labor for charitable causes such as Habitat for Humanity, and volunteer his services to professional organizations such as the Mexican American Bar Association. On behalf of the Department of Justice, we will miss Dave, and have the utmost confidence in his ability and integrity to serve the People of California on the Superior Court."
