California Department of Justice Investigating Two Separate Officer-Involved Shootings Under AB 1506

OAKLAND  California Attorney General Rob Bonta today announced that the California Department of Justice, pursuant to Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), is investigating and will independently review two separate officer-involved shootings (OIS) that occurred over the weekend. One incident occurred in Exeter in Tulare County on Saturday and the other occurred in Culver City in Los Angeles County on Sunday. 

The Tulare County OIS incident resulted in the death of one individual and reportedly occurred at the conclusion of a vehicle pursuit involving the Woodlake Police Department at approximately 11:52 a.m. on Saturday. The Los Angeles County OIS incident also resulted in the death of one individual and also reportedly occurred at the conclusion of a vehicle pursuit involving the Culver City Police Department at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Following notification by local authorities, the California Department of Justice’s California Police Shooting Investigation Teams deployed to the incident scenes. Alongside other law enforcement partners, the California Department of Justice is investigating. Once the investigation has been completed, it will be turned over to the California Department of Justice’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review.
