CA Attorney General Weekly Update: Domestic Violence Awareness

newsletter header image

During this National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I want to let all Californians know that they aren’t alone. On average, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will experience intimate partner or domestic violence. If you or someone you know is in danger, there are resources available to you — including those highlighted in this email. We all have to do our part to help keep our families and communities safe. Let’s continue to look out for one another. As your Attorney General, I am looking out for you.

Whether you need a restraining order, legal aid, guidance and advice, or emergency services, there are resources available and I urge you to reach out for help.

Keeping Kids Safe from Illegal Cannabis-Infused Edibles

AG Bonta

This week my office issued a consumer alert warning Californians about illegal and unregulated cannabis-infused edible products that mimic major brands, including Oreos, Doritos, Cheetos, and more. The products are primarily sold online and at unlicensed shops, and marketed to minors. While cannabis-infused edibles packaged to look like our favorite brands may seem harmless and fun, the dangers of consuming unregulated and untested cannabis products are high, particularly for children and teens. Look carefully at the packaging of products you are purchasing and report copycat products if you come across them.

Putting a Stop to Illegal Gambling

My office announced our work with law enforcement partners throughout the state to secure a multimillion-dollar stipulated judgment against Pong Game Studios, a company that conducted illegal gambling operations and knowingly used casino style games to prey upon vulnerable Californians. I’m grateful to our task force partners across the state for their work in securing this judgment. Together, we can continue to dismantle illegal gambling and make a difference for the people of our state.

As a legislator, I wrote the law expanding access to critical victim services for survivors of domestic abuse. As Attorney General, I’m continuing to support and stand with survivors. It takes all of us working together to end domestic violence and keep our homes and communities safe. #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth

Tips to defend against cyber threats

Recent high-profile cyberattacks serve as a reminder that cybersecurity requires ongoing attention. According to the Identity Theft Resources Center, the number of data breaches that have been publicly reported this year already exceeds the total for 2020. Whether you are an individual or a company that is required to protect the data of consumers or your clients, you play an important role in defending against cybersecurity threats.
