Despite dedicating their lives to defending and serving our nation, some veterans have returned home only to be victimized by an assortment of targeted scams and fraudulent activity. Just as they protected us, we are committed to protecting our veterans.

As part of our continued efforts to uplift and support our heroes, on Veterans Day yesterday, we issued a consumer alert warning veterans and their families to be aware of targeted scams and fraud. This is our latest action in a long list of work to support this community — from fighting for student loan forgiveness, abating predatory lending practices, to taking down fraudsters and criminals targeting veterans. On Veterans Day and every day, at the California Department of Justice, we are committed to supporting our nation's heroes and their families.

Warmly,

Rob

A college education should be a vehicle for opportunity, not a tether impeding your future success. This Monday, was our first day of trial against Ashford University, an online for-profit school that defrauded and deceived California students, including veterans. We are also seeking to hold accountable the University's parent company, Zovio, Inc. (formerly Bridgepoint Education). As the People's Attorney, I'm committed to fighting for the students defrauded by this predatory for-profit college and its parent company, and making sure that they can never take advantage of vulnerable Californians again.
