LOS ANGELES – Attorney General Kamala D. Harris expressed her condolences to the family of Hawthorne Police Officer Andrew Garton, who died Thursday in the line of duty.

“Andrew Garton was a brave officer, and his death reminds us that he and other law enforcement officers in every part of California risk their lives for us every day,” Attorney General Harris said. “Each time they report to work, our officers face new dangers that often they have no way to anticipate. My heart goes out to Officer Garton’s family, friends and colleagues.”

Warren was the epitome of a true public servant, an esteemed leader who possessed grace, intellect and wit. His passion for serving his country and his achievements in public service were gifts to all of us. This is also a personal loss and I will miss his cherished friendship and counsel.

SAN FRANCISCO -- It was with great sadness that I learned on Friday evening we lost a dedicated young officer, Jermaine Gibson. Officer Gibson died in the line of duty while he was protecting his fellow citizens in the community of Cathedral City. His tragic passing is a great loss to his family, his fellow officers, and to the people of California. This valiant and brave young officer also served his country in two tours of Iraq, where he was awarded a Purple Heart. Let us all remember him and his dedication to protecting his fellow countrymen. On behalf of the California Department of Justice, I send our deepest condolences to his young family, his friends, his fellow officers and the entire law enforcement community.
