Adult Protective Services County APS agencies investigate reports of abuse of elders and dependent adults who live in private homes and hotels or hospitals and health clinics when the abuser is not at staff member. County APS agencies evaluate abuse cases and arrange for services such as advocacy, counseling, money management, out-of-home placement, or conservatorship. APS agencies also provide information and referral to other agencies and educate the public about reporting requirements and responsibilities under the Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Reporting laws. |

California State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program The California State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is authorized by the federal Older Americans Act and its State companion, the Older Californians Act. The primary responsibility of the program is to investigate and endeavor to resolve complaints made by, or on behalf of, individual residents in long-term care facilities. These facilities include nursing homes, residential care facilities for the elderly, and assisted living facilities. The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program investigates elder abuse. |
