How to Log on to the Firearms Dealer Annual Training and Certification (FDATC) Course

Commencing on July 1, 2026, Senate Bill (SB) 241 (Stats. 2023, ch. 250) requires licensed firearm dealers and their employees who handle or process the sale, loan, or transfer of firearms or ammunition to annually complete training as described in Penal Code section 26920. Licensees and their employees have between July 1, 2026 and June 30, 2027 to complete this training and pass the corresponding exam for the first time.

Requirements for creating an account

  • Full Name (First*, Middle, Last*)
  • Suffix
  • Certificate of Eligibility (COE) Number
    • Please apply for and complete a COE prior to completing the training, and enter a valid COE number upon account generation
  • California Firearm Dealer (CFD) and/or California Ammunition Vendor (CAV) Number
    • If associated with multiple firearm dealers or ammunition vendors, please list each CFD/CAV number separately
  • Email Address*
  • Please Note: Information marked with an asterisk (*) is a required field and individuals will not be able to proceed with creating an account without this information

Document the password in a secure location; the same login information will be used when renewing the training annually.

Once an account is created, the training may be accessed. The training will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. There will be periodic assessments to evaluate comprehension after each training module. At the completion of the training, a comprehensive final exam must be passed with a score of at least 70% to obtain certification.

Once the exam is successfully passed, a copy of the certification will be available to print. This certificate must be retained by the CFD/CAV for documentation and inspection purposes.
