    There are more than 9,000 criminal appeals in California each year and over 500 death row cases. In many instances, victims and their families have never been apprised so that they might exercise their rights in clemency, execution or other criminal justice proceeding.

    As a victim of crime or family survivor, you can learn about the status and progress of criminal appeals for your case. Use the "Request for Criminal Appeal Status" PDF to submit a hard copy form to Victims’ Services Unit. Your local Victim Witness Center can also provide you with a form.

    The Victims' Services Unit will match your information with the defendant's criminal appeal and inform you about the case progress and ultimate decision.
